PA Rifle Opener

Monday, November 27th, was the opening day of the PA Rifle season. Nearly 700,000 hunters take to the woods in the Keystone State. So far, for the buck pool, I have only heard of two successful hunters. They happen to be my children, Abigail and Samuel.

Abigail harvested her 7 point at 7:30 am in Butler County. WMU 2D was kind to her. She saw one deer and that was it. She was so excited to put her hands on her trophy! She made a great shot from 70 yards and the buck only went 40 yards. To say I was proud is an understatement. Abigail is 11 years old and she has fallen in love with the outdoors.

Samuel sat all day in the same stand and harvested his biggest buck, 125+ inch 10 point, at 4:35 pm. I was sitting in the stand with him when he spotted the buck coming in. The buck was looking to get to the cornfield behind us. One well placed shot from his 308 and the buck dropped in his tracks. We celebrated in the stand and were even more surprised once reached the buck.

This was by far the most exciting day I have ever had hunting. To watch both of my kids successfully harvest bucks was a treat. Just spending time with them in the stand is amazing. Talking and sharing stories is great. I am hoping to pass my passion for the outdoors along to my kids so that they will share it with their kids.

There is still a lot of time left in the season for hunters to find success. I am sure we will see some more nice bucks killed in the remaining week that follow.

I would personally like to thank, Larry Lint, owner of The Pig Farm for allowing us to come and hunt on his free range property. Larry has a huge heart and love to see kids enjoy the outdoors. If you get a chance, check out his website: www.huntingpigspa.com
